Anyone had experience with these, specifically the F series?

The one I'm currently looking at has these rough specs:

i7-740QM (1.73ghz) Intel Quad Core
320gb 7200rpm HDD
6GB (1x4GB, 1x 2GB) DDR3 RAM
16.4" 1920x1080 display
NVidia Geforce 330m (1GB) Gfx card

http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&categoryId=8198552921644691998&N=4294953518

I LOVE my Apple Macbook Pros, but they are just such bad value when comparing them to similar priced other companies Sad

Or:

i5-520M 2.4GHz
320Gb 7200 RPM HDD
6GB 1066mhz DDR3 RAM
1920x1080 Display
NVidia Geforce GT 330M 1GB

Only real difference I can see between the 2 i5 v i7 processor, is that worth a £200 difference?

You're better off not buying sony laptops unless you really need their design or brand.

They're more expensive than the competition, especially when you need to buy additional or replacement components - which you'll need since they only have one year of warranty by default.

Laptop processors suck so you want the best possible, and buy a notebook cooler.

If money is not a problem get a alienware (Dell) m15x with i7 2.66ghz/260M GTX (search online for 5/10% off Dell vouchers online + haggle with them to get a bit more off), buy a 1 year support then before it runs out you can upgrade to 2/3 more years for cheaper than what is listed online (via phone). Always order via phone with Dell.

do you REALLY need a laptop though?

I dont get why people must have a laptop and then try game on it - much simpler option is that you have a gaming desktop for home then just have a lowere powered laptop for grabing on the move. I know for myself I can never really thing of a scenario where I need a really good processor/gfx card and I'm not at home.

You could probably pickup/build a system that is better than those laptops, then get a 24" monitor and still have money left over

^ x 100000

Got a nice macbook pro 13" for my travels which can play a little bit of wow should I want to for a few dungeons and dailies etc (even raid if no other option (e.g. dead desktop, travelled away from pc) and got a proper desktop for gaming. Can build a decent pc to play wow for so so little then still get a decent enough laptop with the leftover money.

You are missing the point, asatar is a tart, so he needs overpriced shit to make him feel good about himself.

Eitherway, dell is quite good, well it is for me as i get 10% off + don't pay VAT Laughing

It has to be a laptop, I move around and use it so much that a desktop is simply too big for my needs.

what gym said is spot on.

if you're going to spend decent money on a laptop then you need to ask yourself the questions, do you really need a high spec one which costs 10x more than it should?

you mention you'll be moving around alot, how much time are you really going to have for games? is it really worth getting a high end gfx card and processor?

my guess is

if you're moving around alot - buy a half decent one, one that will run games but not on the "maximum" settings (aswell as having a PC where-ever you spend the most time)

if you're moving a fair bit but having long stays at places - spend the money and just get a really nice PC which isnt too big to carry around - a flat screen monitor will barely take up any space!

anything that isnt a mac is a thumbs up

LolWindows question, is it worth paying for antivirus such as McAfee or is something free like AVG just as good?

Not much point in paying, pretty sure the free ones are close to as good if not better. Using Avast myself.

How much free shit is genuinely better than paid for shit?

Upto you, but atleast when you pay for it the provider is liable. Too many pikeys wanting shit for free nowadays.

If you want a 'luggable' gaming pc, you might as well have a look at dell's alienware laptop series.

Also, whatever you do do not buy McAfee. Practically every other product screws over your computer less. Rolling Eyes
