I would not recommend getting one from the U.S. until the Dev-Team or the guy behind Spirit announces that their Baseband unlock and Jailbreak are effective on iOS4. If Apple has patched the security holes on release, you will be stuck with a bricked iPhone and a worthless 24 month AT&T contract.
Just wait for the iPhone 4 to arrive in Europe and get one that's factory unlocked (U.K. and France are getting these atleast, not sure about the other countries.)

Unlocking/Jailbreak wont be a problem really. The reason they didn't crack most of the latest v3 firmwares was for the reason that the os didn't give anything new and useful, so the developers were just bored. New os will get jailbroken almost instantly (latest release is already cracked), and i am pretty sure the same will happen for the carrier unlock. |

| There won't be any reason to jailbreak it this time for europeans. You can buy it from the apple UK store at 499£ with no carrier attatched. I hope they will do the same thing when it is released in the next wave of countries. |
